This page is the agreement between you and Threshold. It is written to be read — plainly, in the same voice as the rest of the app — and it says what Threshold is, what it is not, and what each of us is responsible for.
The short version
- Threshold helps you notice and remember. It does not diagnose, and it never tells you what to take.
- What you write is yours. It stays on your device unless you turn on backup.
- Your subscription is billed through the app store you bought it from, and you manage or stop it in that store account.
- Nothing here takes away rights you have under Australian Consumer Law.
What Threshold is — and what it is not
Threshold is a private place to record how you feel through perimenopause and beyond, to notice patterns over time, and to bring a clear summary to an appointment. That is the whole of it.
Threshold is not a medical device, and it does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. It does not tell you what to take, what dose to take, or what any symptom means. Readings and summaries describe what you have recorded; they are a starting point for a conversation with a GP or health practitioner, not a substitute for one.
Always seek the advice of a doctor or other qualified practitioner with any questions about a medical condition, and never disregard or delay professional advice because of something you read in Threshold. If you think you may be having a medical emergency, call 000 or your local emergency number.
Who can use it
You need to be at least 16 years old to use Threshold. By using it, you confirm that you are, and that the information you give us is accurate.
Your account
You can use Threshold entirely without an account. An account exists for one purpose — the optional encrypted backup — and it holds only your email address. Keep your recovery key safe: because your backup is encrypted with a key only you hold, we cannot recover your notes for you if it is lost. The privacy page explains this in full.
Your notes are yours
Everything you record in Threshold belongs to you. We claim no ownership of it, we do not sell it, and we do not use it to train anything. You can delete it — on your device and, if you have one, in your backup — at any time.
We grant you a personal, non-transferable licence to use Threshold on devices you own or control, for your own use. The app itself, its design and its words remain ours.
Subscription and billing
Threshold is a subscription. You can look around a sample record before paying anything; keeping a record of your own needs an active subscription. Readings and messages have monthly caps rather than being unlimited, and the current caps and prices are shown in the app and on the store listing before you buy.
- Payment is taken by the app store — Apple or Google — not by us, and charged to that store account.
- It renews automatically until you turn renewal off. You can do that at any time in your App Store or Google Play account settings, and it takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for.
- Any introductory or trial period is described on the store listing at the time you subscribe. Where a trial requires payment up front, that is stated before you buy.
- Refunds are handled by the store under their terms, not by us — we cannot issue them. The store's own support pages explain how to request one.
- If prices change, the new price applies from your next renewal, and you will be told before it takes effect.
Top-up packs are one-off purchases of extra readings or messages. They do not expire, and they are used only once your included allowance is gone.
Fair use
The caps exist because every reading costs real money to produce. They are set well above ordinary use. If an account is used in a way that is clearly automated or abusive, we may limit or suspend it — and we will tell you why.
Using it properly
Please don't use Threshold to break the law, to try to reach other people's information, to interfere with how the service runs, or to copy or resell it. Please don't rely on it as a medical device, or use it to give anyone else medical advice.
About the readings
Readings and other written reflections are generated by an AI model from what you have recorded. They can be wrong, incomplete, or simply miss the point, and they are not reviewed by a clinician before you see them. Read them as a prompt for your own thinking and for a conversation with a practitioner — never as a finding. The privacy page explains exactly what is sent, and what is not.
When things change
Threshold is actively being built, so features may be added, changed or removed, and the service may occasionally be unavailable. If we make a change that materially reduces what you have paid for, we will tell you, and you will be able to stop your subscription.
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will say so on this page and update the date at the top. Continuing to use Threshold after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Ending it
You can stop using Threshold whenever you like, delete the app, and delete your account and backup from inside it. We may suspend or end access if these terms are seriously or repeatedly broken. Your notes on your own device are always yours to keep or clear.
Our responsibility, and the limits of it
We take real care with this app, particularly with your privacy. But Threshold is provided as it is, and we cannot promise it will always be available, error-free, or right about any pattern it describes.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law — and those rights cannot be excluded. Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under that law. To the extent we are permitted to limit our liability, we limit it to resupplying the service or paying the cost of having it resupplied.
Otherwise, and to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for any decision about your health made in reliance on Threshold rather than on advice from a qualified practitioner.
Threshold is a doorway, not a diagnosis. It is here to help you notice — the rest is a conversation between you and your practitioner.
Apple and the App Store
Where you get Threshold from the App Store, the following apply:
- This agreement is between you and Threshold only — not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its contents.
- Your licence to use Threshold is limited to devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service.
- Threshold, not Apple, is responsible for support and maintenance. Apple has no obligation to provide either.
- If the app fails to conform to any warranty we give, you may tell Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price. Beyond that refund, Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- Threshold, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claim about the app — including product liability, any failure to meet a legal requirement, and any claim under consumer protection law.
- Threshold, not Apple, is responsible for investigating and resolving any third-party claim that the app infringes their intellectual property.
- You confirm you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as terrorist-supporting, and that you are not on any US Government restricted-parties list.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and may enforce them against you.
Which law applies
These terms are governed by the laws of South Australia, Australia. If something cannot be resolved between us, the courts of South Australia will hear it — this does not affect any right you have to bring a claim where you live.
